Take Me To Paradise

Just in time for sock season... my new favorite pair of socks:

Pattern: Just a basic toe-up sock with a short row heel and toe
Yarn: Sunshine Yarns in the Paradise colorway
Measurements: Made to fit my foot (US 8.5)! I did an 11" leg and still have enough yarn left over for some baby socks :)
Started: August 28, 2006
Finished: September 21, 2006
Other Details: Knit on a 2.5mm with 62 stitches

A side note: I've been playing with all the "sock possibilities" this year (aka toe-up, top down, short row vs. heel flap, etc. etc.) and have now come to the conclusion that I hate doing toe-up socks. My favorite combination is a top down short row heel and toe.. however, I like to graft the toe on the bottomside (no, you can't feel anything).

I love toe up socks. I hate doing heel flaps which is why I avoid top down socks. And I have not yet figured out where to start a short row heel on a top down. Any suggestions? But our differences are what makes each of us unique.

I hate doing toe up socks too. But I have yet to learn to do a short row heel - which I think is what I need to do since my least favorite part of knitting socks is picking up stitches and working the gussett.

That's beautiful yarn on those socks!

Very nice socks - love the yarn. I haven't tried toe-up, but that is on my goal list this year since my feet are longer than average. I like the idea of trying on as I go.

DITTO! we're sock twins! i favor top down, short row heel and normal toe decreases to get that grafting high ;)

That is a neat idea to graft the toe on the bottom - I've seen it done on the top before, but not the bottom! I really like top down also - I'm still on a toss up between the short row and flap heel - I hate picking up stitches but it seems to come out better than when I do short rows! More practice needed I guess!

Your socks are beauties! Isn't it a happy thing to figure out your best sock recipe? I'm still trying... I just got a long Addi 2.5mm to try Magic Loop using a toe up sock pattern. I've ever only done top down with a heel flap on DPNs.

Is there a pattern that involves the grafting on the bottom of the sock or do you just work the short row toe so it ends on the bottom rather than the top? I haven't tried the short row toe yet but I am planning to once I can actually make a sock for myself! :)

They look sooo comfy. That little Sirdar cardi is sweet too - "storing it" sounds like a great idea. ;-)

Your socks look wonderful. I am half tempted to stop going to your etsy store on Tuesday's though. It ends up hurting my checkbook, but I always love the yarn you make. Thank you so much.
