Latest Knits

Even though it felt like July in Boston yesterday, I started knitting something new for myself. I've been leaving the house much earlier than usual these past few weeks since my Pilates class began, and its chilly out that time of day. This would be so much cuter than my old Lehigh sweatshirt, no?!

Hemlock Ring

Yes, I have been rather stealth-like with my knitting lately.... But, isn't it purty?!

Normally, I don't have the time or the desire to knit each night. But, with Scott being gone last week, and me being on top of yarnie business things, I had a couple hours each night to work on this... I normally don't keep track of my knitting time, but I was curious to see how long this took. 20 hours for a beautiful lap throw?! Yep, see, you can do it too :)

Some outdoor pics:

Kali apparently found her new sleeping spot for the fall. She loves the woolly smell of the Ecowool and just can't get enough of her scent on it! Luckily, the heathered, rustic yarn with cover up the accumulating cat hair and nail pulls nicely :)

Pattern: Hemlock Ring Blanket by Brooklyn Tweed
Yarn: Cascade Ecological Wool #8025, approximately 1.5 skeins
Needles: Addi Natura 32" US10
Measurements: 48" diameter
Started: September 14, 2007
Finished: September 20, 2007
Other Details: This pattern is wonderful on the heavier yarn. If you can get the Cascade Yarn, use it since it provides a rich, rustic feel. My only qualm is with the blocking. At first, I just dampened and pinned, but that wasn't nearly enough. So, I steam blocked it a few times by holding the iron about an inch over the blanket. I started in the center and worked out. For the edging, I steamed it before and after pinning.

Lace

Remember that plain ol' silk from the other day? Here are a few of my favorites...

These skeins and many other colors will be posted in the store this coming Tuesday. I think I will be starting a new lace project soon, since I just finished my latest knitting project. You will have to wait until Monday since its blocking away, blocking away :)

Oh yes! I almost forgot - we got our wedding pictures yesturday in the mail... We have over a thousand pictures to go through, but here is one of my favorites I've found so far :)

Happy weekend!

Ready for the Zoo

Sometimes you see a project and its just too. darn. cute. You must cast on immediately, or else! That is how I felt about Zoo.....

Zoo hasn't been blocked, and I don't plan on blocking it either since its going to live at my place all folded up and nice, nice for a while....

Pattern: Zoo from RYC Mother and Baby
Yarn: Rowan Cashcotton 4ply in 900, 903 and 904
Measurements: 6-12 month size
Started: April 24, 2007
Finished: September 17, 2007
Other Details: My only qualm with this pattern is the wave chart on the bottom border. They don't take seaming into account, so when you put it together you loose the pattern right on the sides. I absolutely loved using this yarn, its light, soft, heathery.. just perfect in my mind. Go Rowan!

Silky Smooth

Today, its just me and this:

What a way to start of the week! I just got my new custom spun silk, and you know, I am in awe at how beautiful it is! Starting next week, I'll have a new laceweight silk and a fingering weight silk in the store. The fingering weight silk is alot like Handmaiden SeaSilk if you have used that beautiful yarn before.. I can't wait to dye this up....

A Quick Little Guy

I just had to cast on for something new the second I finished my sockapaloooza socks! I had purchased this organic cotton yarn out in Colorado earlier this summer with a specific project in mind: Geordie...

Nothing too crazy; simple lines, simple yarn...

Pattern: Geordie Stripe Yoke Jacket from Natural Knits for Babies and Moms by Louisa Harding
Yarn: Pachuko Organic cotton in natural and green
Measurements: 18 month size
Started: September 1, 2007
Finished: Septeember 9, 2007
Other Details: I used a slightly heavier yarn, but still knit this on a US6. The yarn was great, but splits easily.. I followed the 12 month size figuring it would come out more like the 18 month with my larger gauge.

Behind the Wagon

So, I was a couple of weeks late in finishing and sending off my sockapaloooza socks, but you know, it was definitely the best I could do with all the recent happenings in my life.. I explained to my pal that I would be gone and then out of the country and she definitely was cool with waiting! You rock sockpal!

I really hope she likes them!

Pattern: Monkey Socks by Cookie A., published on Knitty
Yarn: Sunshine Yarns in Neapolitan
Measurements: Made to fit my sockpal!
Started: May 25, 2007
Finished: August 30, 2007
Other Details: I used an Inox 40" 2.5mm and added two repeats to the leg!
