And on the 7th Day... Yarn!

Today we made our way to the final destination, Missoula, MT. The women at the LYS in Whitefish recommended Joseph's Coat as a must visit yarn store in Missoula. So, on our way into town, we made a stop. They had an incredible selection of roving and Henry's Attic yarns, which was great for me! I walked away with a nice share of Periwinkle, an undyed, lofty wool that is very comparable to Colinette's Point Five. We'll have to see about that later :) I was also thrilled to see some blocking pins at this store, since I've been waiting to block the Chevron scarf! Scott thinks I am totally insane for blocking on the carpet in the hotel room... But, you all understand, right?! So, I'll post some pictures of that FO tomorrow!

And, over the weekend, I started another new project! This one is for Scott.. He LOVES this sweater since its so very him. He came into the store with me one day and picked out the color he wanted. We walked away with Manos in color G, a gorgeous coffee color. I am alternating skeins and am sooooo glad I decided to do that (thank you Johanna for talking me into it). I think this project will go quickly, so you'll see more progress soon....

So tomorrow, look forward to seeing the Chevron Scarf all finished as well as pictures from our trip to Mountain Colors! I am so excited, I can't even contain myself :)

Day 6 and Back Again...

Today, we went back to Glacier since the weather held out on us. How could we stay away?!

We went on the 5 mile hike to Avalanche Lake that we wanted to do yesterday. It was so beautiful and refreshing. Here are two pictures of Avalanche Creek. Look at how the water has shaped the rocks over the years....

Here I am in front of Avalanche Lake. We did pass a few people on the way up, but Scott was still scared of running into bears. I told him that I would protect him and just kept on telling him what to do if we did run into one. I thought it was cute... my little New Jersey boy!

Just a little kiss...

Then you can look up! Wow, some beautiful mountains all around us. We even got to see some blue sky.. humph, rain my ass!

After we left the park and returned to Whitefish, we stopped at Knit N' Needle. What a cute little store! They had a nice selection of yarns and were, thank god, open on Sundays :). I came home with two skeins of Tibet from the Himalayan Yarn Company. I've seen this stuff before and love it! Its 60% wool and 40% recycled silk and supports a great cause.

By the time I was done at the yarn store, I needed a snack. While in the local Safeway (yay Safeway!) I found this:

Yum! The only question was, how does one eat this insanely large chocolate coated rice krispie treat?! I solved the issue rather quickly. Scott just couldn't resist taking some pictures....

Tonight we are back at the lodge watching the end of the Broncos game. Tomorrow we are off to Missoula, MT for the next two days. I'll leave you with a pretty picture of the lodge. More pictures tomorrow, of course :)

Day 5 - Going to the Sun Road

Today we went to Glacier and found that the rain held out, but the clouds settled in. It was still gorgeous, don't get me wrong, but I will definitely have to come back here someday when Logan Pass is open and the Going to the Sun Road, is actually sunny. We were going to go on a hike, but ended up just driving up as far as we could into the park and doing some smaller walks. Maybe we'll go back tomorrow if it doesn't rain/snow too much and do the hike I was eyeing up all day. You can see the entrance sign below along with a great picture of Lake McDonald (click on this one to blow up, its worth it). We went in the main entrance to the park, however, there are a billion other angles one could explore here. Hence, me needing to come back...

On the way up the Going to the Sun road, we encountered this waterfall plummetting down the mountainside. How cool :) Once we reached this point (a few miles before Logan Pass) we started getting some snow flurries. This was our first snow of the year!

Once we got to Logan Pass, the temperature had dropped about 10 degrees and the road was closed ahead, so we just took some pictures of Heaven's Peak across the way. We definitely were going to the clouds, rather than going to the sun! I love this different perspective of Heaven's Peak. Even though it was cloudy and snowing a bit, I am thankful that I got a chance to see the park this time of year.

I just couldn't stay away from the streams in this park. They were so clear, green, and full of gorgeous colors! And, do you even need to ask where the women at Mountain Colors get their inspiration?! The first picture is of McDonald Creek and the second is of Avalanche Gorge.

Thats it for today! If the weather is nice tomorrow, we will probably go back to the park. If the weather is bad, we aren't sure what we are going to do... Either way, I'll post something new tomorrow! Have a great weekend everyone!

Day 4 On the Road

I woke up Friday morning in Bozeman, MT. While Scott was inbetween stops for work, we headed to The Yarn Shop. What a cute little store! The owner was so nice and we chatted for a while about East vs. West knitting and yarns. She recently started carrying some Henry's Attic yarns, so of course, I had to walk away with some of that! The yarn I chose was a 100% raw silk yarn that is going to be wonderful to dye. So, you'll probably see some of that on etsy in the near future :)

Early in the afternoon, we left the Bozeman area and started our trek to Whitefish, MT. Here's a picture from along the way...

Day 3 (For Those Who Are Counting)

As promised, some knitting content! I finished a pair of wrist/hand warmers from Last Minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson. These are super soft and I plan on making a few more with different colors. So, plan on seeing more in the future. I finished these up while on our way to Yellowstone!

One thing that Scott and I get a kick out of are the signs... I love this first one about the freezing water. NO KIDDING! The second is just funny to me because, humph, this continental divide is nothing to the one we have in Colorado.. That's just me being a snooty head :) Also, please don't mind the washed out pictures. We were having issues with the bright gray day.

This was by far my favorite spot of the day. This was a picture in front of the West Thumb Geyser area at Yellowstone Lake. I LOVED all the little geyser pools and the paint pots. I think one of the most phenomenal aspects of the entire park are the extremophiles that live in the park (a.k.a. the microorganisms that thrive in the sulphur springs and thermal vents). Ahh, science. I could spend all day getting into this, but I'll spare you all.

A couple of the many other stops we made were to Old Faithful and the Black Sand Basin area. We didn't stick around Old Faithful to watch her errupt, because Scott kept on insisting that "she was a saucy little trickster and would just errupt when we weren't looking". So, we just settled on seeing one of the other small geysers errupt across the field. I was more intrigued by the Black Sand Basin area across the street and all of the wild colors produced by the heavy metal content and extremophiles.

Since this is not the time most people visit Yellowstone, we had issues finding people to take pictures of us. So, here is a self portrait and is, my no means, a nice picture. But, it will have to do for the day. Here we are in front of the Great Fountain Geyser that supposedly takes hours to errupt. Once again, we refused to wait (and Scott does, well not today, have work to tend to!)

Lastly, here is the wildlife photo of the day. A cute little (well, big) bison that we caught right by Firehole Lake.

Right now we are in Bozeman and are only here for tonight. Scott has a bit of work to do here in the morning before we make our way to Whitefish, MT. Have a happy Friday everyone! I need to find a yarn store here in Bozeman.. Must... find... more... yarn.... (Don't tell Scott though).

Day 2

Today was a gorgeous day! Scott only had to work for a couple of hours earlier this morning, which left a lot of play time in the Tetons. We decided to head out on a few hour hike up past Jenny Lake and up to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point.

After the hike, we drove through the rest of the park and observed some of the wildlife. How cute are these young elk?!

We went out to a great dinner at the Rendevous Bistro and are getting ready to head out of Jackson Hole tomorrow morning. We are going to be driving through Yellowstone on our way to Bozeman, MT.. so I'll definitely be showing more pictures as well as some knitting tomorrow! Hope all is well with everyone! I miss my kitties already...

Day 1

Our first day in Jackson, WY was a blast. We arrived yesterday after barely making it out of Boston due to hurricane Wilma. So, we were some of the lucky ones! And, to just tease you all with a few pictures, here it goes:

Some gorgeous airport shots...

Here are some pictures taken from the car on our way to the hotel. I missed these mountains so much since our last camping trip out here 4 years ago.

This is the Teton Village right at the base of Jackson Hole ski area. We are staying at the Teton Mountain Lodge and man, am I in love with this place! I didn't post any pictures of our room, but we have a full on kitchen and a shower with two shower heads.. Enough said. We had a great time last night wandering around town and having some wine back in the room... Ahh, vacation. Well, Scott is here for work, but it is only a minimal amount of work, so thats good :)

And since this is a knitting blog, I am proud to say that I got a lot done on the flights yesterday. I knit about 12 inches on the chevron scarf and also knit one hand/wrist warmer from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. Pictures to come later :)
